Best eSIM for Honduras (2026): Prices, Networks and Which Plan to Buy

Updated · Wayfarro team

best esim for honduras

The best eSIM for Honduras is Nomad if you want fixed data and Wayfarro if you want a few days of unlimited. Nomad's 1GB costs $4.50 and its 5GB $13, both below Wayfarro's $7.50 and $23; Wayfarro's 7-day unlimited at $35 is cheaper than Airalo's $36. Airalo is cheapest for 10 days or more of unlimited. Nomad's plans use Claro. Wayfarro's prices come straight from its store; Nomad's and Airalo's were checked in November 2026.

US and Canadian carriers often charge a daily fee in Honduras, and other home plans charge full roaming rates. A travel eSIM installed at home gives you data the moment you land, whether that's on the mainland or on Roatán.

How to read this table: Nomad is cheaper than Wayfarro on every fixed-data size, so if you know roughly how much you'll use, Nomad is the better buy. On unlimited, Wayfarro is cheaper than Airalo at 3, 5 and 7 days and sells the only 1-day plan; Airalo is cheaper at 10 and 15 days and the only one selling 30 days. Nomad sold no unlimited Honduras plan when we checked, and Airalo's page showed only unlimited plans. A dash means the provider doesn't sell that exact plan, or we couldn't confirm its US-dollar price.

Wayfarro's unlimited rows are its Unlimited Lite plans: 1GB a day at full speed, then 512 kbps until the next day. Airalo's page states full speed for the first 3GB each day, up to 20 Mbps, then 1 Mbps, which is more generous. Wayfarro also sells Unlimited Essential (1GB a day, then 1.25 Mbps) at $42 for 7 days and Unlimited Plus (2GB a day, then 2 Mbps) at $84.

Which is the best eSIM for Honduras for your trip?

Most visitors either dive the Bay Islands, visit the Maya ruins at Copán, or both:

  • A dive week on Utila or Roatán: you'll be underwater or on a boat most of the day, so data use is light. Nomad's 3GB at $9 or 5GB at $13 is plenty and the cheapest.
  • A long weekend with heavy use: Wayfarro's 3-day unlimited at $18 is cheaper than Airalo's, and the 1-day plan at $6.50 covers a single cruise stop on Roatán.
  • A week of unlimited: Wayfarro's 7-day plan at $35 is a little cheaper than Airalo's $36.
  • Two weeks or more, or working online: Nomad's 20GB at $29 is the best fixed value; for unlimited, Airalo's 15-day plan at $49 or 30-day plan at $99.
  • Copán plus Guatemala: Wayfarro's Central America plan covers Honduras, Guatemala, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Mexico and Panama on one eSIM. Its 3-day unlimited at $16 is cheaper than the Honduras plan's, and the Guatemala eSIM guide compares plans across the border.

Networks and coverage in Honduras

Honduras has two big mobile networks, Tigo and Claro, with about 5 million subscribers each. Tigo is owned by Millicom and Claro by Mexico's América Móvil; both run 4G LTE. The state telecom company Hondutel also has a small mobile service.

Nomad's plans run on Claro. Airalo's page lists Celtel. Wayfarro's plan page doesn't name its partner, so the network shows on your phone when you land.

  • Tegucigalpa and Palmerola: the capital's international flights moved in October 2021 to Palmerola International Airport near Comayagua, about 60 km northwest of the city. The old Toncontín airport still handles domestic and regional flights.
  • San Pedro Sula: Ramón Villeda Morales International Airport is 11 km southeast of the city and is the country's other big international gateway.
  • Roatán: the largest of the Bay Islands, 50 km off the north coast, has its own international airport, Juan Manuel Gálvez, so many divers fly straight there.
  • Utila: the smallest of the three main Bay Islands, at the southern end of the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef, the second-largest reef system in the world.
  • Copán Ruinas: the town beside the Maya ruins of Copán, a UNESCO World Heritage Site known for its hieroglyphic stairway, close to the Guatemalan border.
  • Pico Bonito National Park: 564 km² of protected forest, from 60 m to 2,480 m above sea level. Expect no signal on the trails.

Dive boats, ferries and offline backups

On the Bay Islands, your dive shop, ferry and taxi will mostly reach you by WhatsApp, so data matters even if you're in the water all day. Save the dive shop's address, your booking and the ferry times offline before you leave the mainland, in case signal drops on the crossing.

For Copán, Pico Bonito or any long road trip, download offline maps first. Rural coverage in Honduras is patchier than in the cities, and no eSIM, even the best eSIM for Honduras, can fix a valley with no tower.

How to set up an eSIM for Honduras

Install at home on Wi-Fi, then switch it on when you land.

  1. Check your phone is unlocked and supports eSIM. iPhone XS and later, Google Pixel 3 and later, and most recent Samsung Galaxy phones do.
  2. Install before you travel. Scan the QR code or tap the install link; the step-by-step install guide covers iPhone and Android.
  3. Label it "Honduras" so you can find it in settings.
  4. On arrival, set it as your mobile-data line and turn on Data Roaming for it. Travel eSIMs technically roam, so data won't connect without it.
  5. Keep your home SIM on for calls and texts with its data roaming off, so you don't pay your carrier's daily roaming fee.

Wayfarro's validity starts on first connection in Honduras, not at install, and top-ups go onto the same eSIM without reinstalling.

Bottom line

The best eSIM for Honduras is Nomad for fixed data, Wayfarro for 1 to 7 days of unlimited, and Airalo for 10 days or more of unlimited. For a trip that crosses into Guatemala or Nicaragua, Wayfarro's Central America plan keeps it to one eSIM. See Wayfarro's Honduras eSIM plans.

FAQ

Which networks does a Honduras eSIM use?

Honduras has two main mobile networks, Tigo and Claro, each with about 5 million subscribers; the state company Hondutel is far smaller. Nomad's plans run on Claro, and Airalo's page lists Celtel. Wayfarro's plan page doesn't name its partner, so the network shows on your phone when you land.

Does an eSIM work on Roatán and Utila?

Yes, the Bay Islands have mobile coverage, and Roatán has its own international airport. Signal can be weaker on boats and at the far ends of the islands, so save dive-shop details and ferry times offline before you head out.

Which is cheaper in Honduras, Nomad or Wayfarro?

For fixed data, Nomad: its Honduras plans cost less than Wayfarro's at every size, starting at $4.50 for 1GB. For short unlimited stays, Wayfarro: its 3-, 5- and 7-day unlimited plans cost less than Airalo's, and Nomad sold no unlimited Honduras plan when we checked.

Can I use one eSIM for Honduras and Guatemala?

Yes. Wayfarro's Central America plan covers Honduras, Guatemala, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Mexico and Panama on one eSIM, which suits a Copán trip that crosses the Guatemalan border. Its 3-day unlimited at $16 is cheaper than the Honduras plan's.

Which airport should I set up my Honduras eSIM at?

Wherever you land: Palmerola near Comayagua for Tegucigalpa, Ramón Villeda Morales for San Pedro Sula, or Juan Manuel Gálvez on Roatán. Install the eSIM at home first, then on arrival set it as your data line and turn on data roaming. Wayfarro's validity starts on first connection in Honduras.
