Best eSIM for Moldova (2026): Prices, Networks and Which Plan to Buy
Updated · Wayfarro team

The best eSIM for Moldova is Wayfarro: it ties Nomad at 1GB ($4.50) and is cheaper at every other size we compared, from 3GB ($8.50 against Nomad's $9) to 20GB ($23 against $34). Its unlimited plans also undercut Airalo's at every length, starting at $7 for 3 days. Nomad and Airalo both run on Orange. Wayfarro's prices come straight from its store; Nomad's and Airalo's were checked in November 2026.
Moldova is a small country, and most visitors spend a few days in Chișinău with day trips to the wine cellars and the historical complex at Orheiul Vechi. Plenty also combine it with Romania or Ukraine, which changes the best buy.

Prices for the plans travelers actually buy, read from each provider's Moldova page. Providers run sales often, so check before you buy.

How to read this table: Wayfarro and Nomad are level at 1GB, and Wayfarro is cheaper at 3GB, 5GB, 10GB and 20GB. On unlimited, Wayfarro undercuts Airalo at 3, 5, 7 and 10 days, and it's the only one of the three with 1-day, 15-day and 30-day unlimited plans. Nomad sold no unlimited Moldova plan when we checked, and Airalo's page showed only unlimited plans. A dash means the provider doesn't sell that exact plan, or we couldn't confirm its US-dollar price.
The unlimited plans aren't identical. Wayfarro's rows are its Unlimited Lite plans: 1GB a day at full speed, then 512 kbps until the next day. Airalo's page states full speed for the first 3GB each day, up to 20 Mbps, then 1 Mbps, so its plans give more fast data each day. Wayfarro also sells Unlimited Essential (1GB a day, then 1.25 Mbps) at $22 for 7 days and Unlimited Plus (2GB a day, then 2 Mbps) at $27, which is still cheaper than Airalo's 7-day plan.
Which is the best eSIM for Moldova for your trip?
- A long weekend in Chișinău: 3GB at $8.50, or the 3-day unlimited at $7 if you'd rather not count.
- A week with wine tours and day trips: 5GB at $11 or the 7-day unlimited at $21.
- A month or more: 20GB at $23, or the 30-day unlimited at $44, which nobody else in this comparison sells.
- Moldova with Romania or the rest of Europe: Wayfarro's Europe plan covers Moldova, Romania and 35 other countries on one eSIM, and when we checked its 1GB ($4), 3GB ($6) and 5GB ($9) were cheaper than the Moldova-only plans. The Romania eSIM guide covers the Iași side.
- Moldova with Ukraine: no Wayfarro plan covers both, so you'll need a separate Ukraine eSIM; see the Ukraine eSIM guide.
Networks and coverage in Moldova
Moldova has three mobile networks: Orange, Moldcell and Moldtelecom. Orange and Moldcell carry most users, and Moldcell is owned by CG Corp Global. Moldtelecom, the state-owned telecoms company, dominates fixed lines but had only about 9% of the mobile market in 2023. The regulator is ANRCETI.
Nomad's and Airalo's eSIMs both run on Orange. Wayfarro's plan page doesn't name its partner, so the network shows on your phone when you land.
- Chișinău: the capital is the best-covered part of the country, and cafés and hotels generally have Wi-Fi.
- Chișinău Eugen Doga International Airport: 13 km southeast of the centre, and the only airport in Moldova with regular passenger flights, so it's where almost every flying visitor lands.
- Cricova: the winery 15 km north of Chișinău has underground cellars that are a popular tour. Signal underground is limited, so sort out your ride back before you go down.
- Mileștii Mici: registered by Guinness World Records in 2005 as the largest wine collection in the world, with cellars stretching for 200 km, 55 km of them in use.
- Orheiul Vechi: the historical complex at Trebujeni, about 60 km northeast of Chișinău on the Răut River, If you're driving yourself, download an offline map before you set off.
Transnistria and the borders
The best eSIM for Moldova won't necessarily work in Transnistria. The breakaway territory along the Dniester, internationally recognised as part of Moldova, has its own capital, Tiraspol, and its own mobile operator, Interdnestrcom. Treat a day trip there as offline: download maps, save your bus times and arrange where to meet before you cross.
Moldova sits between Romania and Ukraine. Chișinău's station has international trains to Bucharest and Kyiv, and buses run to Iași and Odesa.
How to set up an eSIM for Moldova
- Check your phone is unlocked and supports eSIM. iPhone XS and later, Google Pixel 3 and later, and most recent Samsung Galaxy phones do.
- Install before you travel, on Wi-Fi at home. The step-by-step install guide covers iPhone and Android.
- On arrival, set the Moldova eSIM as your mobile-data line and turn on Data Roaming for it. Travel eSIMs technically roam, so data won't connect without it.
- Keep your home SIM on for calls and texts with its data roaming off.
Wayfarro's validity starts when the eSIM first connects in Moldova, top-ups go onto the same eSIM without reinstalling, and a personal hotspot is allowed.
Bottom line
The best eSIM for Moldova is Wayfarro: level with Nomad at 1GB, cheaper at every larger size, and cheaper than Airalo on every unlimited plan. If Moldova is one stop on a European trip, the Europe plan is cheaper still for small amounts of data. See Wayfarro's Moldova eSIM plans.
FAQ
Which network does a Moldova eSIM use?
Both Nomad's and Airalo's Moldova plans run on Orange. Wayfarro's plan page doesn't name its partner, so the network shows on your phone when you land. Moldova's other networks are Moldcell and the state-owned Moldtelecom.
Does a Moldova eSIM work in Transnistria?
Don't count on it. Transnistria, the breakaway strip east of the Dniester with Tiraspol as its capital, has its own mobile operator, Interdnestrcom. Download maps and anything you need before a day trip, and expect your Moldova plan to work again once you're back on the right bank.
Does my Europe eSIM work in Moldova?
Wayfarro's Europe plan includes Moldova, and when we checked it was cheaper than the Moldova-only plan for 1GB, 3GB and 5GB. Other providers' Europe plans vary, so check the country list before you rely on one.
How much data do I need for a week in Moldova?
Most visitors are fine with 3GB to 5GB for a week, since cafés and hotels in Chișinău usually have Wi-Fi. Wine-cellar tours and day trips to Orheiul Vechi use more maps and photos than you'd think. If you'd rather not count, Wayfarro's 7-day unlimited is the cheapest in this comparison.
