Best eSIM for Ukraine (2026): Prices, Networks and Which Plan to Buy
Updated · Wayfarro team

The best eSIM for Ukraine for most trips is Wayfarro: it's the cheapest at 1GB ($4.50 against Nomad's $6), 3GB and 5GB, level with Nomad at 10GB, and its unlimited plans undercut Airalo's from 3 to 15 days. For 20GB or 50GB, Nomad's $21 and $31 are much cheaper, and for a month of unlimited, Airalo's $72.50 wins. Nomad lists Kyivstar, Vodafone and lifecell. Wayfarro's prices come straight from its store; Nomad's and Airalo's were checked in November 2026.
Most people going to Ukraine right now are visiting family, working, volunteering or reporting, and they arrive overland. Check your government's travel advice before you go: many advise against travel to all or part of the country. If you're going, sort out data at home, because you'll want it from the moment you cross the border.

How to read this table: Wayfarro is the cheapest at 1GB, 3GB and 5GB and level with Nomad at 10GB. At 20GB and 50GB, Nomad is far cheaper. On unlimited, Wayfarro undercuts Airalo from 3 to 15 days; Airalo's 30-day plan is cheaper than Wayfarro's. Nomad sold no unlimited Ukraine plan, and Airalo's page showed only unlimited plans. A dash means the provider doesn't sell that exact plan, or we couldn't confirm its US-dollar price.
The unlimited plans aren't identical. Wayfarro's rows are its Unlimited Lite plans: 1GB a day at full speed, then 512 kbps until the next day. Airalo's page states full speed for the first 3GB each day, up to 20 Mbps, then 1 Mbps. Wayfarro also sells Unlimited Essential (1GB a day, then 1.25 Mbps) at $23 for 7 days and Unlimited Plus (2GB a day, then 2 Mbps) at $46.
Which is the best eSIM for Ukraine for your trip?
- A short family visit: 3GB at $8 or 5GB at $12, both cheaper than Nomad's. City hotels generally have Wi-Fi too.
- A week or two of work with lots of video calls: Wayfarro's 7-day unlimited at $21 or 10-day at $28. If you need more than 1GB a day at full speed, Unlimited Plus gives 2GB.
- A month or longer: Nomad's 20GB at $21 or 50GB at $31 for a fixed amount, or Airalo's 30-day unlimited at $72.50.
- You need a backup network: Nomad's eSIM lists all three Ukrainian networks, which is worth weighing if staying online matters more than price. Carrying two eSIMs from different providers is another way to get the same resilience.
- Poland or Moldova on the same trip: neither is on the same plan as Ukraine, so build the trip in Trip Builder with one plan per country. The Poland eSIM guide covers the most common way in.
Networks and coverage in Ukraine
Ukraine has three national mobile networks: Kyivstar, Vodafone and lifecell. Kyivstar is the largest, with about 24 million mobile subscribers in 2024, and its network covers every city, more than 28,000 rural settlements and the main roads. Vodafone Ukraine, owned by NEQSOL Holding, is second; it's the former MTS Ukraine, rebranded in 2015. lifecell, owned by KKR, is third and covers 98.82% of inhabited territory; it started out in 2005 as life:), launched by a company called Astelit.
Nomad's eSIM lists all three networks, Airalo's runs on lifecell (listed as Astelit), and Wayfarro's plan page doesn't name its partner, so the network shows on your phone when you arrive.
Two things set Ukraine apart. First, networks can go down: on 12 December 2023, a cyberattack caused a major Kyivstar outage. Second, Kyivstar launched Europe's first direct-to-cell satellite service with Starlink in November 2025, but that's for Kyivstar's own subscribers, not for visitors on a travel eSIM.
Coverage near the front line in the east and south, and in occupied areas, can be unreliable or absent. Elsewhere, Kyiv, Lviv, Odesa and the other cities have good 4G.
Ukraine travel tips that affect your data
The best eSIM for Ukraine is one you've installed before you get on the train. Ukrainian airports, including Kyiv's Boryspil, have had no scheduled flights since 24 February 2022, so travelers come in overland. The busiest route is by rail from Przemyśl in Poland, about 15 km from the Medyka–Shehyni border crossing, where broad-gauge trains run into Ukraine. From Moldova, Chișinău's station has trains to Kyiv.
Ukrainian Railways is a state company and one of the world's largest passenger carriers, so expect long journeys with patchy signal between cities. Download offline maps and anything you need to read before you set off.
Power cuts can take home and hotel Wi-Fi down, and on those days your eSIM may be your only connection, so it's worth buying a bit more data than you'd need at home.
How to set up an eSIM for Ukraine
- Check your phone is unlocked and supports eSIM. iPhone XS and later, Google Pixel 3 and later, and most recent Samsung Galaxy phones do.
- Install before you travel, on Wi-Fi at home. The step-by-step install guide covers iPhone and Android.
- Once you've crossed the border, set the Ukraine eSIM as your mobile-data line and turn on Data Roaming for it. Travel eSIMs technically roam, so data won't connect without it.
- Keep your home SIM on for calls and texts with its data roaming off.
Wayfarro's validity starts when the eSIM first connects in Ukraine, so installing it a week before you leave doesn't cost you any days. Top-ups go onto the same eSIM without reinstalling, and a personal hotspot is allowed.
Bottom line
The best eSIM for Ukraine for most visits is Wayfarro: cheapest at 1GB to 5GB and on unlimited from 3 to 15 days. Nomad wins for 20GB and up and is the only one of the three that lists all three national networks; Airalo is cheaper for a full month of unlimited. See Wayfarro's Ukraine eSIM plans.
FAQ
Which network does a Ukraine eSIM use?
Nomad's Ukraine page lists all three national networks, Kyivstar, Vodafone and lifecell. Airalo's lists Astelit, the company behind lifecell. Wayfarro's plan page doesn't name its partner, so the network shows on your phone when you arrive.
Does my Europe eSIM work in Ukraine?
Not Wayfarro's: its Europe plan doesn't include Ukraine, and neither does a Poland-only plan, so they stop working at the border. Other providers' Europe plans vary, so check the country list. Install a Ukraine plan before you cross, or build the whole trip in Trip Builder with one plan per country.
When should I install a Ukraine eSIM if I'm arriving by train?
Before you leave home, on Wi-Fi. Ukrainian airports have had no scheduled flights since 24 February 2022, so most visitors arrive by train or road from Poland or Moldova. Switch your data line over once you've crossed the border, and keep the eSIM for your previous country installed for the trip back.
What's the cheapest unlimited eSIM for Ukraine?
Wayfarro's, for 3 to 15 days, when we checked in November 2026: its 7-day Unlimited Lite plan undercut Airalo's $27.50. For a whole month, Airalo's 30-day plan at $72.50 is cheaper. Nomad sold no unlimited Ukraine plan.
What happens if one network goes down?
It does happen: Kyivstar, the largest network, suffered a major outage after a cyberattack in December 2023. A travel eSIM that can use more than one network, like Nomad's, can switch to another. If yours has only one partner, carry a second eSIM or keep your home SIM's roaming as a backup.
