Best eSIM for Paraguay (2026): Prices, Networks and Which Plan to Buy
Updated · Wayfarro team

The best eSIM for Paraguay for most trips is Wayfarro or Nomad: they tie at 1GB ($6), 5GB and 10GB, and Wayfarro is cheaper at 3GB ($14 against Nomad's $16). Wayfarro's unlimited plans undercut Airalo's from 3 to 10 days, but for 20GB Nomad's $29 is far cheaper. Nomad's Paraguay plans run on Claro and Airalo's on Tigo. Wayfarro's prices come straight from its store; Nomad's and Airalo's were checked in November 2026.
Paraguay gets fewer tourists than its neighbours, and plenty of them arrive for a day or two: across the bridge from Foz do Iguaçu, on a business trip to Asunción, or overland on the way to Bolivia. That makes the small and short plans the ones that matter.

How to read this table: Wayfarro and Nomad are level at 1GB, 5GB and 10GB, and Wayfarro is a little cheaper at 3GB. At 20GB, Nomad is much cheaper. On unlimited, Wayfarro is the cheapest for every length it sells, from 1 to 10 days; for 15 or 30 days, Airalo is the only option. Nomad sold no unlimited Paraguay plan when we checked, and Airalo's page showed only unlimited plans. A dash means the provider doesn't sell that exact plan, or we couldn't confirm its US-dollar price.
Wayfarro's unlimited rows are its Unlimited Lite plans: 1GB a day at full speed, then 512 kbps until the next day. Airalo's page states full speed for the first 3GB each day, up to 20 Mbps, then 1 Mbps, so its plans give more fast data each day. Wayfarro also sells Unlimited Essential (1GB a day, then 1.25 Mbps) at $42 for 7 days and Unlimited Plus (2GB a day, then 2 Mbps) at $84.
Which is the best eSIM for Paraguay for your trip?
Pick by how long you're staying and how much of it is on the road:
- A day in Ciudad del Este from Foz do Iguaçu: Wayfarro's 1-day unlimited at $6.50 is the only one-day plan here, or 1GB at $6, level with Nomad.
- A few days in Asunción: 3GB at $14 is cheaper than Nomad's, or the 3-day unlimited at $18 undercuts Airalo's $19.50.
- A week touring, Asunción to Encarnación and the Jesuit missions: 5GB at $19, the same as Nomad, or the 7-day unlimited at $35 if you navigate and upload a lot. Airalo's 7-day plan costs more but gives 3GB a day at full speed instead of 1GB.
- A month or more, or working remotely: Nomad's 20GB at $29 is the best value for a fixed amount of data. For a month of unlimited, Airalo's 30-day plan is the only one in this comparison.
- Paraguay with Brazil or Argentina: Paraguay isn't in Wayfarro's Latin America plan, so build the trip in Trip Builder with a plan per country. The Brazil eSIM guide covers the Foz do Iguaçu side.
Networks and coverage in Paraguay
Paraguay has four mobile networks, and Tigo is by far the biggest. Tigo, owned by Millicom, had about 4.4 million subscribers at the end of 2025. The others are Personal, part of Telecom Argentina, Claro, owned by América Móvil, and the much smaller VOX. The regulator is CONATEL.
Airalo's Paraguay plans run on Tigo and Nomad's on Claro. Wayfarro's plan page doesn't name its partner, so the network shows on your phone when you land.
- Asunción: the capital is the best-covered part of the country, and most hotels and cafés offer Wi-Fi too.
- Silvio Pettirossi International Airport: the country's main airport is in Luque, just outside Asunción, so your eSIM should connect before you reach the city.
- Ciudad del Este: Paraguay's second city sits on the Paraná River at the Triple Frontier, joined to Foz do Iguaçu in Brazil by the Friendship Bridge. If data stalls near the bridge, check which network your phone has picked and select a Paraguayan one manually.
- Encarnación and Itapúa: the third-largest city faces Posadas, Argentina, across the Paraná. The Jesuit missions of Trinidad and Jesús de Tavarangue, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1993, are a short drive away.
- The Chaco: western Paraguay is part of the Gran Chaco, a huge, thinly populated lowland. Expect signal in towns along the Ruta Transchaco and long gaps between them, so download offline maps before you go.
Paraguay travel tips that affect your data
The best eSIM for Paraguay depends a lot on borders. Ciudad del Este, Foz do Iguaçu and Puerto Iguazú sit within a few kilometres of each other, and plenty of visitors cross two or three times in a day. A Paraguay-only plan works only on the Paraguayan side, and Iguazú Falls itself is in Argentina and Brazil. The Itaipú Dam, one of the largest hydroelectric plants in the world, straddles the Paraguay–Brazil border just outside Ciudad del Este.
If you'll cross often, keep two eSIMs installed, one Paraguay and one Brazil or Argentina, and switch the data line at the border. Validity on a Wayfarro plan starts on first connection in its country, so the second eSIM doesn't burn days while it waits.
How to set up an eSIM for Paraguay
Install at home on Wi-Fi, then switch it on when you arrive.
- Check your phone is unlocked and supports eSIM. iPhone XS and later, Google Pixel 3 and later, and most recent Samsung Galaxy phones do.
- Install before you travel. Scan the QR code or tap the install link; the step-by-step install guide covers iPhone and Android.
- Label it "Paraguay" so you can find it in settings, especially if you also carry a Brazil or Argentina eSIM.
- On arrival, set the Paraguay eSIM as your mobile-data line and turn on Data Roaming for it. Travel eSIMs technically roam, so data won't connect without it.
- Keep your home SIM on for calls and texts with its data roaming off, so you don't pay your carrier's roaming fee.
Top-ups go onto the same eSIM without reinstalling, and a personal hotspot is allowed, which helps if you're sharing a car through the Chaco.
Bottom line
The best eSIM for Paraguay on a short trip is Wayfarro or Nomad: they tie at 1GB, 5GB and 10GB, and Wayfarro is cheaper at 3GB and the cheapest for unlimited from 1 to 10 days. For a big data allowance, Nomad's 20GB plan is better value, and for 15 or 30 days of unlimited, Airalo is the only seller. See Wayfarro's Paraguay eSIM plans.
FAQ
Which network does a Paraguay eSIM use?
Airalo's Paraguay page lists Tigo, the country's largest network, and Nomad's lists Claro. Wayfarro's plan page doesn't name its partner, so the network shows on your phone when you land. Paraguay's other networks are Personal and the small VOX.
Does a Paraguay eSIM work at Iguazú Falls?
No. The falls are in Argentina and Brazil, so a Paraguay-only eSIM stops working once you cross the Friendship Bridge into Foz do Iguaçu or reach Puerto Iguazú. Add a small Brazil or Argentina plan for those days; Trip Builder puts the countries of a trip in one basket.
How much data do I need for a week in Paraguay?
Most visitors are fine with 3GB to 5GB for a week, since hotels and cafés in Asunción usually have Wi-Fi. If you're on the road a lot, in the Chaco or between Asunción and Encarnación, an unlimited plan saves you watching the meter. Wayfarro's 7-day unlimited is the cheapest in this comparison.
Can I get a 1-day eSIM for Ciudad del Este?
Yes. Wayfarro sells a 1-day unlimited Paraguay plan, the only one-day plan in this comparison, and its validity starts when the eSIM first connects in Paraguay. It suits a shopping day in Ciudad del Este from Foz do Iguaçu. Install it before you cross and switch your data line over on the Paraguayan side.
