Best eSIM for Saint Martin (2026): Plans, Coverage and the Dutch-Side Question
Updated · Wayfarro team

The best eSIM for Saint Martin is a plan that matches which half of the island you're staying on. Wayfarro's Saint Martin plan starts at $6.50 for 1GB over 7 days, with 5GB for 30 days at $18 and 7 days of unlimited data at $44; it's sold for the French side, and the Dutch side is a different country with different plans. Neither Nomad nor Airalo had a Saint Martin page when we checked in November 2026, so this guide compares Wayfarro's own options rather than claiming it beats anyone.
Saint Martin is 87 square kilometres split roughly 60:40 since 1648 between France in the north and the Kingdom of the Netherlands in the south, under the Treaty of Concordia, one of the oldest treaties still in force. There's no border post, but there are two currencies, two airports and two sets of mobile networks, and that's what decides which eSIM to buy.

How to read this table: the Saint Martin plan is the cheaper choice at 1GB, 5GB and for unlimited weeks if you're only on the island; the Caribbean bundle was slightly cheaper at 20GB when we checked and is the only one of the two that also works in Sint Maarten, Anguilla and Saint Barthélemy. A dash means that size isn't sold in the bundle, or we couldn't confirm its price.
The unlimited rows are Wayfarro's Unlimited Lite plans: 1GB a day at full speed, then 512 kbps until the next day. Unlimited Essential (1GB a day, then 1.25 Mbps) costs $53 for 7 days and Unlimited Plus (2GB a day, then 2 Mbps) costs $106.
Which is the best eSIM for Saint Martin for your trip?
- A beach week on the French side, Orient Bay or Grand Case: 3GB at $12 or 5GB at $18. Villa and hotel Wi-Fi covers the evenings; you need data for maps, bookings and the ferry schedule.
- Staying on the Dutch side, Philipsburg, Simpson Bay or Maho: skip the Saint Martin plan. Wayfarro's Netherlands Antilles plan covers Sint Maarten, and the Caribbean bundle covers both halves.
- A cruise stop or a day trip from Anguilla or St Barth: the 1-day unlimited at $8 for the French side. Cruise ships dock at Philipsburg on the Dutch side, so day-trippers heading north cross the border on the taxi ride.
- Island-hopping the Leewards: the Caribbean bundle, one eSIM for Saint Martin, Anguilla, Saint Barthélemy, Saba, Sint Eustatius and the rest. The Caribbean eSIM guide goes through it.
- A month of remote work from Marigot: 20GB at $80 or 50GB at $117, or 30 days of unlimited at $187 if video calls are daily.
Networks and coverage on the island
Wayfarro's plan page doesn't name its network partner in Saint Martin, so the operator appears on your phone when you connect. The French side and the Dutch side each have their own operators, licensed by France and by Sint Maarten respectively, and a plan sold for one isn't a plan for the other.
The practical effect is at the border, which runs across the middle of the island from near Marigot to near Philipsburg and is marked by little more than a monument on Mount Concordia, where the 1648 treaty was signed. Phones don't read treaties: close to the line, yours may connect to whichever side's tower is stronger. If you're relying on EU home-rate roaming, which applies on the French side because Saint Martin is an outermost region of the EU and in the eurozone, check the network name before you start streaming, because Sint Maarten is outside the EU and costs roaming rates.
Whichever best eSIM for Saint Martin you pick, coverage on the French side is good along the coast, from Marigot round to Grand Case on the Anguilla Channel and Orient Bay on the east coast, where most visitors stay. Pic Paradis, at 424 m the island's highest point, and the hill trails around it are where signal thins out. Pinel Island, a short boat hop off the north-east coast, is close enough to shore to keep signal on the beach.
Arriving at SXM and getting around
Almost everyone lands at Princess Juliana International Airport on the Dutch side, next to Simpson Bay Lagoon, famous for the jets skimming Maho Beach on final approach. If you've bought a Saint Martin plan for the French side, it won't necessarily connect at the airport; it kicks in when you reach French territory, a 20-minute drive north. The French side's own airport, Grand Case–L'Espérance, handles ATR flights to Guadeloupe and Saint Barthélemy and private aircraft.
Things worth knowing before you pick a plan:
- Two currencies. The French side's official currency is the euro and the Dutch side introduced the Caribbean guilder on 31 March 2025, replacing the Netherlands Antillean guilder, but the US dollar is accepted almost everywhere on both halves. You'll still be checking exchange rates on your phone.
- Two populations, one island. About 41,000 people live on the Dutch side and 32,000 on the French side, in Philipsburg and Marigot and the villages between. Grand Case, the most populous place on the French side, is the restaurant strip, with beach bars along its long sandy bay.
- Ferries. Marigot has the ferry to Anguilla across the Anguilla Channel, and boats run from Cul-de-Sac to Pinel Island. Timetables are what you'll check most after restaurant menus.
- Hurricane season. Irma, a Category 5 storm, hit the island on 6 September 2017 and caused around $3 billion of damage; Princess Juliana reopened for relief flights within two days. June to November is the season, and a working data connection is how you'll follow any advisories.
How to set up an eSIM for Saint Martin
- Check your phone is unlocked and supports eSIM. iPhone XS and later, Google Pixel 3 and later, and most recent Samsung Galaxy phones do.
- Install before you travel, on Wi-Fi at home. The step-by-step install guide covers iPhone and Android.
- Once you're on the French side, set the Saint Martin eSIM as your mobile-data line and turn on Data Roaming for it. Travel eSIMs technically roam, so data won't connect without it.
- Keep your home SIM on for calls and texts with its data roaming off.
Wayfarro's validity starts when the eSIM first connects in Saint Martin, not when you install it, and top-ups go onto the same eSIM without reinstalling.
Bottom line
The best eSIM for Saint Martin depends on your side of the border: Wayfarro's Saint Martin plan for the French north, its Netherlands Antilles plan for Sint Maarten, or the Caribbean bundle if you'll be on both or hopping to Anguilla and St Barth. Buy before you fly, and remember that the airport is on the Dutch side. See Wayfarro's Saint Martin eSIM plans.
FAQ
Does a Saint Martin eSIM work on the Dutch side, in Sint Maarten?
Treat them as two countries, because they are. Wayfarro's Saint Martin plan is sold for the French collectivity in the north; Sint Maarten in the south is a separate country in the Kingdom of the Netherlands with its own networks. If you're staying in Philipsburg, Simpson Bay or Maho, look at Wayfarro's Netherlands Antilles plan, which covers Sint Maarten, or the Caribbean bundle, which covers both sides.
Which network does a Saint Martin eSIM use?
Wayfarro's plan page doesn't name its partner on the island, so the network shows on your phone once you connect. Coverage on the French side follows the coast road through Marigot, Grand Case and Orient Bay, where almost everyone stays. Pic Paradis and the hill trails in the middle are where you'll see signal drop.
Will my EU SIM roam for free in Saint Martin?
On the French side, yes: the Collectivity of Saint Martin is an outermost region of the EU and uses the euro, so EU roam-like-at-home rules apply. Sint Maarten is outside the EU, so the moment your phone picks up a Dutch-side network you're on normal roaming rates. Near the border your phone may latch onto either, so check which network it shows.
How much data do I need for a week in Saint Martin?
For a beach week with hotel Wi-Fi, 3GB to 5GB is plenty: maps between the beaches, restaurant bookings in Grand Case and ferry times to Anguilla or Pinel. Wayfarro's 5GB for 30 days is $18. Day-trippers from a cruise ship can get by with the 1-day unlimited at $8.
Is the Caribbean bundle better than a Saint Martin plan?
Only if you're island-hopping. The Caribbean bundle covers Saint Martin plus Anguilla, Saint Barthélemy, the Dutch Caribbean and two dozen other islands, so it's the one eSIM for a cruise or a Leeward Islands loop, and at 20GB it was cheaper than the Saint Martin plan when we checked. For a stay on the island alone, the Saint Martin plan is cheaper at the small sizes.
