Best eSIM for Sweden (2026): Prices, Networks and Which Plan to Buy for Stockholm, Gothenburg and Lapland

Updated · Wayfarro team

best esim for sweden

The best eSIM for Sweden on price is Wayfarro, which is cheaper than or level with Nomad and Airalo on every plan we compared. 10GB for 30 days costs $12 against $16 at Nomad, and 7 days of unlimited data costs $21 against $25 at Nomad and $27 at Airalo. Wayfarro also sells 15- and 30-day unlimited plans ($44 for a month, against $69 at Airalo), which Nomad doesn't. Wayfarro's prices come straight from its store; Nomad's and Airalo's were checked on their own sites in October 2026.

Sweden is easy to be online in: the cities are well covered, and the four networks share much of their infrastructure. The choice comes down to trip length and borders, because Copenhagen sits just across the Øresund Bridge from Malmö and the rest of the Nordics are a short flight or ferry away.

How to read this table: Wayfarro is under Nomad on every fixed-data size from 1GB to 20GB and level at 50GB. On unlimited it's level with Nomad at 3 days and the cheapest of the three from 5 days up. Airalo's Sweden page listed unlimited plans only. Only Wayfarro sells a 1-day unlimited plan, a 2GB plan and a 100GB plan ($80). A dash means the provider doesn't sell that exact plan, or we couldn't confirm its US-dollar price.

The unlimited prices for Wayfarro are its Unlimited Lite plans: 1GB a day at full speed, then 512 kbps until the next day. Two faster tiers are on the same page: Unlimited Essential (1GB a day, then 1.25 Mbps) at $22 for 7 days, and Unlimited Plus (2GB a day, then 2 Mbps) at $25. Nomad and Airalo don't publish a daily high-speed allowance on their Sweden pages.

Which is the best eSIM for Sweden for your trip?

Match the plan to the trip, not the other way round:

  • Stockholm weekend: 1GB at $4 handles the airport train, the metro, maps and messaging. If you'll be filming Gamla Stan and the archipelago boats, the 3-day unlimited at $11 is level with Nomad and under Airalo.
  • A week, Stockholm and Gothenburg by train: 5GB at $8, against $12.50 at Nomad. Heavy users should take the 7-day unlimited at $21.
  • Two weeks, including the north: A trip up to Swedish Lapland means long train rides and a lot of photos. The 15-day unlimited at $31 has no Nomad equivalent and is well under Airalo's $49.
  • A month or a work stint: 20GB at $19, or 30 days unlimited at $44.
  • One day between flights: The 1-day unlimited at $4.50 is the only plan of its kind here.
  • Sweden with Denmark, Norway or Finland: Get Wayfarro's Europe regional plan, which covers all four Nordic countries plus Iceland and more than 30 others, from $9 for 5GB.

Four networks, fewer masts than you'd think

Sweden has four mobile operators: Telia, Telenor, Tele2 and Tre. Telia is the biggest, with about 3.9 million subscribers at the end of 2025; Telenor (the former Vodafone Sweden) has about 3.1 million, Tele2 about 2.2 million and Tre about 1.9 million. All four run 4G and 5G.

What makes Sweden unusual is how much they share. Tele2 and Telenor run a joint network company called Net4Mobility, Tre and Telenor share through another called 3GIS, and Telia and Tele2 have shared through UMTS Nät. So Nomad's eSIM on Tele2 and Airalo's on Telenor often end up on the same towers. Wayfarro's plan page doesn't name its partner network.

Where you'll notice coverage:

  • Stockholm, Gothenburg, Malmö and Uppsala: The best-covered parts of the country, on every network.
  • Long-distance trains: Mostly covered; the occasional forest stretch drops out briefly. Have tickets and the next connection on screen.
  • The archipelago and lakes: Covered near the inhabited islands, thinner further out. Save offline maps before a kayak or ferry day.
  • The far north: Coverage follows the towns and the railway to Kiruna and Abisko; the open fell away from them is where gaps are likeliest. Download the area before you head out.

How to set up an eSIM for Sweden

Do it before the trip, on home Wi-Fi. About two minutes:

  1. Check your phone supports eSIM and isn't carrier-locked. iPhone XS or newer, Pixel 3 or newer and most recent Galaxy phones work.
  2. Install it before you fly by scanning the QR code or tapping the install link. Step-by-step install guide.
  3. Label it "Sweden" so it's obvious in settings.
  4. After landing, choose the Sweden eSIM for mobile data and switch on Data Roaming for it. Travel eSIMs use roaming to connect.
  5. Keep your regular SIM on for calls and verification texts, with its data roaming off.

Wayfarro's validity clock starts on the first connection in Sweden, not at install. Top-ups go onto the same eSIM from the app, and hotspot is allowed.

Arlanda, and the bridge to Copenhagen

Stockholm Arlanda is 37 km north of the city and Sweden's largest airport. The Arlanda Express gets you to Stockholm Central in 18 minutes but costs about 340 SEK one way. The commuter train from Arlanda Central takes about 38 minutes and is cheaper, though fares from the airport station are higher than a normal Stockholm transit ride because of an extra fee for the airport line. Buying in an app as you walk to the platform is the easy way, which is one more reason to land with data working.

In the south, the geography makes a lot of trips two-country trips. Malmö is a short train ride over the Øresund Bridge from Copenhagen and its airport, and a Sweden plan stops working once you're across. If you're flying into Copenhagen for Malmö and Skåne, or adding a few days in Denmark, the Europe plan is the one to buy. Our Denmark eSIM guide covers the Copenhagen side.

Bottom line

Wayfarro is the best eSIM for Sweden on price across every plan we compared: under Nomad on fixed data from 1GB to 20GB, level at 50GB, and the cheapest unlimited from 5 days to 30. Nomad runs on Tele2 and Airalo on Telenor, and in a country where networks share towers, that matters less than price and plan length. If the trip crosses to Denmark, Norway or Finland, take the Europe plan and keep one eSIM. See Wayfarro's Sweden eSIM plans, or map a Nordic route in the Trip Builder.

FAQ

Which network is best for an eSIM in Sweden?

Sweden has four networks: Telia is the largest with about 3.9 million subscribers, then Telenor with 3.1 million, Tele2 with 2.2 million and Tre with 1.9 million. They share a lot of their masts through joint companies, so coverage differs less between them than the number of brands suggests. Nomad's Sweden eSIM runs on Tele2 and Airalo's on Telenor; Wayfarro's plan page doesn't name its partner network.

How much data do I need for a week in Sweden?

Maps, transit apps, messaging and photos use about 0.5–1GB a day, so 5GB at $8 covers a week in Stockholm with a trip to Gothenburg. For heavy video or a hotspotted laptop, the 7-day unlimited at $21 is under Nomad's $25 and Airalo's $27.

Does a Sweden eSIM work in Copenhagen?

No, a Wayfarro Sweden plan covers Sweden only, so it stops working when the train from Malmö crosses the Øresund Bridge into Denmark. If Copenhagen, Oslo or Helsinki is part of the trip, Wayfarro's Europe regional plan covers all of them with Sweden on one eSIM, from $9 for 5GB.

What's the fastest way from Arlanda Airport into Stockholm?

The Arlanda Express reaches Stockholm Central in 18 minutes, but a single adult ticket is about 340 SEK. The commuter train (pendeltåg) takes about 38 minutes from Arlanda Central and costs less, though fares from the airport station are higher than a normal Stockholm transit ride because of a fee for the airport line. Either way, have the ticket app ready before you leave the arrivals hall.

When should I install my Sweden eSIM?

Install it at home on Wi-Fi a day or two before you fly and leave it switched off. Wayfarro plans don't start counting down until the eSIM first connects to a Swedish network, so it waits until you land and turn on data roaming.
